What Videospeichern stores about you (almost nothing)

No accounts, no stored files, no pasted links kept. A plain list of what Videospeichern processes when you save a video, what it counts, and what it never keeps.

A downloader sits between you and the content you want, which puts it in a position to learn a lot: which links you paste, which videos you save, when and from where. Videospeichern is built to learn as little of that as possible. This guide lists, in plain words, what happens to your data when you use it. The privacy policy is the formal version; this is the explanation.

No account, so no profile

There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to. Videospeichern never asks for your name, email address or password, and never asks for your login on any platform. Without an account there is nothing to attach a history to: no list of your downloads, no favourites, no profile of your interests.

This is also why Videospeichern can only save public posts. It never borrows your access to anything; the guide on why private posts cannot be downloaded explains that choice.

When you paste a link and tap Save, the link is sent to Videospeichern's server so it can read the post. It is used for that one request and is not written to any log of pasted links or to the usage statistics. Once the result card is on your screen, the server has nothing left of it.

The file you download

Files are never stored. There are two ways a download reaches you, and neither leaves a copy:

  • Direct from the platform. Where the platform allows it, your browser fetches the file straight from the platform's own servers. The file never passes through Videospeichern at all. The result card then says "Direct from the platform".
  • Streamed through Videospeichern. Where that is not possible, for example when picture and sound have to be joined or an MP3 has to be made, the file is streamed through Videospeichern's server to you as it is produced. It is not written to disk and is gone as soon as the transfer ends.

There is no archive, no cache of popular videos and no gallery of what other people saved.

What is counted

To know whether the service works, Videospeichern counts anonymous events. An event records:

  • whether reading a post or a download succeeded, and which error occurred if not,
  • which platform and which format (MP4 or MP3) it concerned,
  • whether the file was delivered directly or streamed, and its size when known,
  • the language and address of the Videospeichern page the request came from.

It does not record who you are, your IP address, the link you pasted or which post you saved. These counts are what make it possible to notice that, for example, one platform has stopped working.

Your IP address

Like every website, Videospeichern's server sees the IP address of each request while it is being handled. It uses the address for one thing: rate limits, which stop a single connection from flooding the service. The address is held in memory only for the length of the time window it counts, and it is never written into the usage statistics.

What stays in your browser

Videospeichern keeps a few small values on your own device:

  • Your theme choice (light or dark), in local storage, so the page does not flash on your next visit.
  • Your cookie choice from the consent banner, in local storage under sx-consent.
  • Your language, in a cookie called NEXT_LOCALE that the site's routing may set to remember the language of the page you opened.

None of these are sent to anyone for tracking. You can delete them at any time by clearing the site data in your browser, and you can reopen the cookie choice on the privacy settings page.

Advertising

Videospeichern is free and is financed by advertising. Where ads are shown, they come from Google. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, advertising cookies are only used after you agree in the consent banner; if you decline, only non-personalised ads may be shown. Ads never appear on the legal pages or inside the download steps. The privacy policy names what Google processes and how to opt out.

If you write to us

The contact form and the copyright notice form store exactly what you type into them, together with the time they arrived, so the message can be answered. They do not store your IP address. Only write what the message needs.

The short version

Videospeichern knows that someone saved a video from some platform at some time, and whether it worked. It does not know who, which video, or from which link. To see this in practice, save a clip with the X video downloader and look at the result card: when it says "Direct from the platform", the file never touched Videospeichern's servers. For how the direct route and streaming differ technically, see HLS and DASH explained.
