Privacy policy

Videospeichern is built so that there is very little about you to protect in the first place: no accounts, no stored files and no record of the links you paste. This policy explains what is processed when you use the site, why, for how long, and who else is involved — including Google, which provides the advertising.

Who is responsible

The operator named at the end of this page and on the imprint is responsible for the processing described here. Privacy requests can be sent through the contact form or to the address given there.

No accounts and no profiles

You cannot register with Videospeichern, and there is nothing to log in to. No name, email address, password or payment detail is collected when you use the downloader, and no profile of your activity is built or sold.

Links you paste and files you download

A link you submit is sent to our server so it can read the public post the link points to. It is used for that one request and is not stored afterwards, neither in a log of links nor in the usage statistics.

Files are never stored. Where a platform allows it, your browser downloads the file directly from the platform's servers and it does not pass through ours at all. Otherwise the file is streamed through our server while it is produced — for example when picture and sound are joined or an MP3 is converted — and it is not written to disk.

Videospeichern works only with public posts on the platforms listed on the platforms page. It never signs in to a platform on your behalf, so your own accounts are never involved. When a file is fetched, the platform sees a request from our server or, for direct downloads, from your browser, just as it would if you opened the post yourself.

Anonymous usage statistics

To know whether the service works, we count events without identifying who caused them. We do not use any third-party analytics service. Each recorded event holds only:

  • whether reading a post or a download succeeded, and which error occurred if it failed;
  • which platform and which format (MP4 or MP3) it concerned;
  • whether the file was delivered directly or streamed, and its size when known;
  • the language and path of the Videospeichern page the request came from;
  • for a visit that comes from outside, only its source as a category (such as “Google”, “ChatGPT”, “WhatsApp” or “direct”) — never the full referring address; nothing is stored on your device for this;
  • at most a coarse country code — never an IP address.

Server requests, IP addresses and abuse prevention

Like every website, our server receives the technical data every request carries — IP address, time, requested address and browser identification — in order to deliver the page. Our hosting provider processes this data on our behalf to run the servers.

The IP address is also used to apply rate limits against abuse. For that purpose it is held in memory only for the length of the relevant time window, and it is never written into the usage statistics. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a working and secure service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

What is kept in your browser

Videospeichern keeps a few small values on your device. None of them is used to track you:

  • your light or dark theme choice, in local storage, so the page does not flash on the next visit;
  • your answer in the consent banner, in local storage under sx-consent; when advertising is switched on, Google's consent message also stores your choice in its own cookie so it does not ask again on every page;
  • a NEXT_LOCALE cookie that the site's routing may set, holding only the language code of the page you opened.

Advertising and cookies from Google

Videospeichern is free to use and is financed by advertising. Ads are provided by Google through its AdSense service: by Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) for visitors in the European Economic Area and Switzerland, and by Google LLC otherwise. Advertising is switched on and off by the operator. While it is switched off, no ad spaces are shown, no Google script is loaded and your browser makes no request to Google; this section describes what applies when advertising is switched on.

When ads are shown, Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to deliver ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure performance and prevent fraud. With your consent, ads can also be based on your earlier visits to this and other websites (personalised ads). Data processed by Google may be transferred to the United States.

When advertising is switched on, consent is collected by Google's consent management platform (Google's consent message, certified for the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework 2.2) before any ad script is loaded; where that message cannot load, the site's own consent banner asks instead. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, no advertising cookies are used and no ad script is loaded before you have made a choice. Google's consent message is loaded on pages that can show ads and on the privacy settings page. The legal basis for personalised advertising is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). If you decline, the ad script may still load, but it requests only non-personalised ads, which are based on the content of the page and your approximate location rather than on a profile of you.

Ads never appear on the legal pages, on the contact page or inside the download steps. You stay in control:

  • Change or withdraw your choice at any time on the privacy settings page.
  • Manage the ads Google shows you at https://myadcenter.google.com.
  • Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
  • Opt out of personalised advertising by many companies at https://www.youronlinechoices.eu (Europe) or https://optout.aboutads.info (United States).

Contact and copyright messages

If you write to us through the contact form or the copyright notice form, we store what you enter — your name, email address, message and, for a copyright notice, the details a notice requires — together with the time it arrived, so we can answer and keep a record of the request. Your IP address is not stored with the message. No email is sent automatically.

Messages are kept for as long as they are needed to deal with the request and any follow-up, and are then deleted. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you, or the handling of a copyright notice you send (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Your rights

Where data protection law applies, you have the right to access, correct, delete and restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to processing based on legitimate interest, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority.

Apart from messages you sent us, we normally hold nothing that could identify you, so a request will usually be answered with confirmation that no personal data about you exists.

Changes to this policy

If the way Videospeichern handles data changes, this page changes with it and the review date at the top is updated. Material changes are described in plain language.
