How to download Instagram Reels on Android
Save a public Instagram Reel, photo or carousel on an Android phone with Chrome — where the file lands, how to get it into your gallery, and what cannot work.

On Android, downloading an Instagram Reel is mostly a question of getting the link out of the app and into a browser. Chrome then does the rest and drops the file into your Downloads folder, where your gallery app finds it. This guide covers Reels, single photos and carousels, and explains the limits that come from Instagram itself rather than from your phone.
What can be saved
Videospeichern reads Instagram the way a visitor without an account sees it. That covers:
- public Reels and videos in the feed,
- single photos, at the largest size Instagram serves for the post,
- carousels, where every slide can be saved on its own or all together as a ZIP.
It does not cover posts from private profiles, Stories or Highlights. Instagram only shows those after signing in, and Videospeichern never signs in. The guide on why private posts cannot be downloaded explains this in more detail.
Step 1: copy the Reel's link
Open the Reel in the Instagram app. Tap the paper-plane icon (Share) under the video, or the three dots in the corner, and choose Copy link. Android shows a short confirmation that the link is on the clipboard.
For a photo or carousel post the steps are the same: the share menu or the three-dot menu both offer Copy link.
Step 2: open the downloader in Chrome
Open Chrome (or the browser you normally use) and go to the Instagram video downloader. Tap the paste bar and choose Paste from the pop-up, or tap the Paste button next to the field. The Instagram chip appears as soon as the link is recognised. Tap Save.
Recent Android versions show a small notice when an app reads the clipboard. That is expected: the page reads the link you just copied and nothing else.
Step 3: pick what you want
After a moment the result card shows what the post contains.
- For a Reel or video, you get a list of qualities with the sharpest at the top, each labelled with its resolution and an estimated size, followed by an MP3 row for the sound alone.
- For a photo, you get one row labelled Original with the image dimensions.
- For a carousel, each slide gets its own card, and a Save all as ZIP button packs every item into one archive.
Tap the Save button of the item you want. A short countdown runs while the file is prepared, then the download starts by itself. If it does not, use Didn't start? Download again.
Where the file lands
Chrome on Android saves to the Download folder in your phone's internal storage. You can see the finished file in three places:
- the notification Chrome shows when the download completes,
- Chrome's own list under the three-dot menu → Downloads,
- the Files app (on many phones "Files by Google" or "My Files"), under Downloads.
Most gallery apps, including Google Photos, pick up videos in the Download folder automatically. In Google Photos they appear under Collections → On this device → Download, not necessarily in the main timeline. If you want the Reel in your camera timeline, open the file in Google Photos and back it up, or move it into the Camera folder with your file manager.
The guide on finding downloaded videos on iPhone and Android has more on this, including phones that save to an SD card.
Carousels and ZIP files
A ZIP bundles several files into one download, which is faster than tapping Save ten times. Android's Files app can open a ZIP: tap it, choose Extract, and the photos and videos appear in a new folder next to it. Gallery apps see them once they are extracted.
If you only need two or three slides, it is simpler to save them one by one from their own cards.
Keeping only the sound
Reels often carry music or a voice-over that is worth more than the picture. Choose MP3 · audio only on the Reel's card to get the sound as an MP3 file. The conversion happens on request and the file is streamed to you; nothing is kept on a server. The guide on extracting the audio from a video as MP3 explains what to expect from the result.
Common problems
The chip does not appear. The clipboard may still hold something else. Copy the link again in Instagram and paste it once more.
"Only visible after signing in". The post is on a private profile, is a Story, or Instagram decided to require a login for it. There is no way for Videospeichern to see such posts.
The post loads but the video is missing. A post can contain only photos. In that case the card shows photo rows and no video qualities.
Instagram refused the request. Instagram sometimes turns away requests for a while. Wait a minute and try again; if a public post keeps failing, the service may be adjusting to a change on Instagram's side.
Download blocked by the browser. Some browsers ask for permission before saving files, and some battery savers pause downloads in the background. Keep the browser open until the download notification shows it is complete.
Using what you download
Saving a Reel to watch offline or to keep a copy of your own post is ordinary. Reposting someone else's Reel as if it were yours is not, and Instagram's own rules and copyright law both apply to that. If you want to reuse a clip, ask the creator. For the general picture, read whether downloading social media videos is legal.
