How to save Snapchat Spotlight videos
Download public Spotlight Snaps as MP4 with sound or as MP3, and understand why private Snaps, chats and friends' stories are never within reach.

Snapchat is mostly private by design: Snaps between friends disappear, chats are closed, and stories go to the people you choose. Spotlight is the exception. It is Snapchat's public feed of short videos, and every Spotlight Snap has its own web page that anyone can open. That public page is what makes saving possible. This guide explains how, and where the line is.
Spotlight versus everything else
Before you start, check what kind of Snap you are looking at.
- Spotlight Snaps are public. They appear in the Spotlight tab, have a share link, and open in a normal browser without an account. These can be saved.
- Snaps and chats sent to you are private. They are never within reach of any website.
- Stories shared with friends are private as well.
- Public Stories from creators and publishers live in a different part of the app and are not covered here.
Videospeichern never signs in to Snapchat. It sees exactly what a browser without a Snapchat account sees, which is Spotlight.
Step 1: copy the Spotlight link
In the Snapchat app, open the Spotlight Snap and tap Share (the arrow), then Copy link. The link points to a page on snapchat.com.
On a computer, you can also open Spotlight on the Snapchat website and copy the address of the Snap from the address bar.
Step 2: paste it
Open the Snapchat video downloader and paste the link into the field. When the Snapchat chip appears, tap Save.
Step 3: save the Snap
Snapchat publishes each Spotlight Snap as a single vertical MP4. You will therefore usually see one quality row instead of a list. That is not a limitation of the downloader: there is simply one version, and you get it unchanged.
Tap Save. A short countdown runs while the file is prepared, then the download starts by itself. If nothing happens, tap Didn't start? Download again.
For the sound alone, choose MP3 · audio only. Spotlight Snaps often use music or voice-overs, and the MP3 row turns that track into an audio file on request.
Where it ends up
iPhone: Safari saves the MP4 in the Downloads folder of the Files app. Open the file, tap Share and Save Video to put it in Photos.
Android: Chrome saves it to the Download folder. Google Photos and most gallery apps show it under the device's Download folder.
The guide on finding downloaded videos on iPhone and Android explains both in more detail, including what to do if the file does not appear in your gallery.
On a computer
Spotlight also works in a desktop browser. Open the Snap's link, or browse Spotlight on the Snapchat website, and copy the address of the Snap you want. Paste it into the downloader in the same way. The MP4 goes into your browser's Downloads folder, where you can open it in any video player or drag it into an editor.
Vertical video on other screens
Spotlight Snaps are filmed for a phone held upright. The MP4 keeps that vertical format, typically nine units wide by sixteen high. On a phone it fills the screen. On a computer or a TV, players show it with black bars on the sides, which is normal. Cropping it to landscape would cut off most of the picture.
If you want to know what the resolution label on the quality row means for a vertical video, read 720p vs 1080p. Videospeichern labels videos by their shorter side, so a vertical 720 by 1280 video is listed as 720p.
Common problems
The link opens the app, not a web page. That is only your phone's choice of app. The link itself is still a web address; paste it into the downloader as usual.
"Not found". The Snap was removed from Spotlight, or the link was not copied completely. Copy it again from the Share menu.
The link is not recognised. Make sure you copied a Spotlight link and not a profile or a chat link. Only Spotlight Snaps have their own public page.
Snapchat refused the request. This can happen for a while after many requests. Wait a minute and try again.
Privacy runs both ways
Snapchat users choose Spotlight when they want a wide audience, and that is the only content Videospeichern reads. The private side of Snapchat stays private: there is no way to save someone's chat or story here, and no way should exist. If you save a Spotlight Snap, the creator still owns it. The guide on whether downloading social media videos is legal covers what that means in practice, and why private posts cannot be downloaded explains the principle behind the limits.
