Video download not working? A checklist that finds the cause
The error messages Videospeichern shows, what they mean and what to do next — from unrecognised links and deleted posts to rate limits and downloads that never start.

Most failed downloads come down to a few causes, and Videospeichern tries to name the cause instead of spinning forever. This checklist goes through the messages in the order you might meet them, from pasting the link to opening the file, and says what each one means and what you can do about it.
Stage 1: the link
The platform chip does not appear
When you paste a link, a chip with the platform's name should appear next to the field. If it does not:
- The clipboard held something else. Copy the link again from the app's Share menu and paste once more.
- The text is not only a link. Some apps copy a sentence together with the link ("Check out this video! https://…"). Delete everything before and after the address, or copy the link again from a different menu entry.
- The site is not supported. Videospeichern names the host it detected and says it cannot save from there yet. The list of platforms shows what works today.
"That does not look like a link to a post"
The link was recognised as belonging to a platform, but it does not point to a single post. Profile pages, search results and home feeds are not posts. Open the post itself and copy its link.
Stage 2: reading the post
"The post could not be found"
The post was deleted, the account was removed, or the link is incomplete. Long links sometimes lose their last characters when copied from a message. Copy it again from the original app.
"Only visible after signing in" or "protected account"
The post is private: a protected account, a private profile, a friends-only video or a private group. Videospeichern never logs in, so it cannot see such posts. The guide on why private posts cannot be downloaded explains why there is no workaround.
"No video or GIF attached"
The post has no media of its own. Two common reasons: it contains only text or photos, or the video belongs to a quoted or shared post. Open the original post and copy its link instead.
"Could not be read right now"
The platform refused to answer or took too long. Platforms sometimes turn away requests for a while, or change how their pages work. Wait a minute and try again. If one platform keeps failing for every public post, the service may be adjusting to a change on that platform.
"Downloads from this platform are paused"
Downloads from that platform have been switched off for the moment, usually because the platform changed something and saving from it does not work reliably. Try again later.
"Too many requests"
Each connection has a small number of requests per minute. The message says how long to wait. Shared connections, such as a school or office network, can reach the limit sooner because many people use the same address.
Stage 3: the download
Nothing happens after the countdown
After you tap Save, a short countdown runs while the file is prepared, and then the download starts by itself. If your browser shows nothing:
- Tap Didn't start? Download again.
- Check whether the browser blocked the download. Some browsers ask for permission the first time a site downloads a file.
- On a phone, keep the browser in the foreground until the download has started.
"That download link has expired"
Download links are short-lived on purpose. If you waited a long time between reading the post and saving, paste the post link again to get a fresh one.
"Too large"
The file is larger than the service can handle in one download. Choose a lower quality row, which is a smaller file of the same video. For a gallery that is too large for one ZIP, save the items one by one.
"MP3 conversion is unavailable"
Audio conversion is temporarily switched off. The video download still works; you can save the MP4 and extract the audio later.
Stage 4: the file
The video has no sound
See why some downloaded videos have no sound. In short: the original may be silent, it may be a GIF, or your player may be muted.
The file does not open
An interrupted download leaves an incomplete file. Delete it and save it again on a stable connection. If a ZIP does not open, the same applies.
The file is not in the gallery
Browsers save into a Downloads folder, not into the photo library. The guide on where downloaded videos go on iPhone and Android shows how to move files into Photos or Google Photos.
Still stuck?
If a public post fails for reasons none of these explain, use the contact form and include the platform and the message you saw. You do not need to include the link if you would rather not; the platform and the error are usually enough to find the problem. For a first test with a platform that works reliably, try the X video downloader.
